Robotic Surgery and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Why we focus on Robotic Surgery & AI

Robotic-assisted surgery, as a further development of minimally invasive surgery, has a firm place in upper GI tract and colorectal surgery. In addition, there are increasing possibilities for use in hepatobiliary surgery and in surgery of the pancreas. Safety and patient benefits are the central aspects in the establishment of new surgical techniques. Therefore, one goal of this working group is the evaluation and further development of robotic-assisted surgery.

Another goal of the working group is to optimize postoperative complication management by identifying particularly vulnerable patient groups. These can be selected by multiple influencing factors, whereby the amount of data often represents the limiting factor of the evaluation.  Machine learning algorithms as part of the research field "Artificial Intelligence" should facilitate the process and thus attract attention at an early stage in order to optimize treatment measures.

Impressions of Robotic Surgery

  • Outcome of robotic-assisted surgery
  • Comparison of surgery methods: Robotic-assisted, laparoscopic & Open surgery
  • AI-based preventive complication management
  • AI-based intraoperative ICG-fluorescence measurement
